A better way to power remote industry

Cambridge Energy Partners (CEP) sells large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) generators to customers in remote locations around the world.

CEP’s generators look and behave like traditional utility-scale solar energy systems, but are fast to install and easy to redeploy. Our systems also track the sun throughout the day, which increases energy yield when compared to fixed-tilt systems.

Ideal applications include large industrial operations, which can self-consume the solar power to displace a higher-cost power source, and utility-scale solar projects in emerging markets

Significant benefits for customers:

  • Low-cost electricity, up to 50% cheaper than alternative sources, e.g. diesel generation, or the electrical grid in many remote regions
  • Bankable, low-risk projects thanks to CEP's redeployable solar technology
  • Significant impact for industrial operations - offset ~30% of total energy demand

What We Do

What We Do

The Problems we solve

Cambridge Energy Partners’ mission is to make solar energy more accessible and affordable to commercial and industrial operation in remote locations.

The demand for power across Africa and Latin America is enormous and growing. Lower-cost solar photovoltaic (PV) energy will play a significant part in fulfilling this energy need, either via projects that contribute to the local electrical grid, or off-grid solar-diesel hybrid systems.

However, significant barriers remain for solar energy to become cost-effective at remote locations and for smaller projects (i.e. <10 MW). CEP’s solution overcomes two important barriers, namely:

  1. Supply chain inefficiencies and high construction costs, which make traditional solar PV systems relatively expensive.
  2. The risk of the asset being stranded, which deters project finance investment. This happens when the end user is unable to commit to long term agreements (e.g. mining operations), or has lower credit (e.g. emerging market firms or utilities).

Our Solution

CEP has developed the world’s first all-in-one solar generator that is modular, mobile, and tracks the sun. This means that even the most remote locations can now access cost-effective and low-risk solar power.

The modular generator can be used in applications ranging from 30 kW to 10’s of MW with energy that costs less than from traditional solar systems.

The mobility of the generator also mitigates risks and makes our generator significantly easier to finance than permanent installations.

Industrial customers – How it Works:

CEP’s solar generator (shown in orange below) is integrated into the existing electrical system to create a reliable hybrid system. Lower-cost solar offsets expensive power from either the local grid or onsite diesel generator system.
